When the weather outside in Duluth MN is dipping below zero and snowfall has you spending the weekend cozying up indoors, it can be easy to put aside your list of home projects for when warmer months return. Outdoor projects such as replacing exterior siding, repairing a roof, or replacing windows, tend to take a back seat during the winter months. This tendency, as it turns out, may not be in your best interest. Read on to discover why winter is the perfect time to start thinking about your list of home remodeling projects. Renovation or repair projects can take anywhere between a few weeks to several months to complete, and this timeline may begin sooner than you expect: before you even book the job. Many contractors and construction companies book several weeks to months ahead of time, so planning for a job to be completed in the summer may begin as early as the winter before. It’s wise to reach out to your local remodeling company as soon as you begin dreaming up your next home remodeling project to discuss project scope and ensure your place on their busy fair weather schedule. Lucky for you, Oriole Construction is your one-stop shop for all your exterior remodeling projects such as new windows, roof repairs and replacement, freshening up your entrance with a new front door, or changing out the design of your house with new siding or a new addition. We pride ourselves in being the best local company to work with in Duluth! One of the most common causes of delays in renovations provides another reason to begin sooner rather than later: ordering of materials. Local Remodeling companies often have little control over external circumstances with their suppliers that may delay getting important materials to you. If you wait until the last minute, you risk running into shipping and fulfillment delays that may extend the overall time of your project. By beginning your remodeling project early, you can ensure all materials will be right there when you need them. But project speediness and efficiency aren’t the only reason to get an early jump on summer remodeling projects in Duluth MN. In the case of potentially damaging or dangerous repairs such as roof leaks, unstable deck space, or poor window sealing, allowing the problem to progress could lead to costly or even dangerous consequences. The longer a problem is allowed to progress unchecked, the quicker you go from a little repair job to a major undertaking. By reaching out to one of our local remodeling experts as soon as you identify an issue, you ensure that the problem will be resolved as soon as possible, preventing further issues from developing. It can be tempting to spend winters curled up relaxing and not thinking of the projects that warmer months will bring. But by spending some time next to the fire dreaming up your next Duluth area home improvement endeavor, you can be confident you’re investing the time and space to plan properly and end in success. Modern replacement windows are designed to minimize heat transfer, keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Upgrading to energy-efficient windows can reduce energy costs and make your home more comfortable year-round. 2. Aging or Damaged Windows Old windows can show signs of wear and tear, such as rotting frames, cracked glass, or difficulty opening and closing. These issues compromise your home's insulation and security. Replacement windows can restore functionality and give your home a fresh look. 3. Improved Curb Appeal Windows are a defining feature of your home's exterior. Replacing outdated or mismatched windows can instantly enhance your home's appearance. We are fully in the swing of winter here on Minnesota's North Shore...and I still haven't sealed my windows with plastic for the season. I'm sure there are fellow frosty homeowners who know just what I mean. Every winter I make the run to the hardware store to buy sheets of plastic to seal my windows in hopes of trapping in a little bit more heat. When temperatures dip below 0 in the Duluth area and winds can gust up to 60 mph regularly, every degree matters. As a child, I have memories of the big to-do in my childhood Duluth area home of making sure all our windows were sealed tight with clear plastic...and the inevitable frustration that occurred when pets (or children) poked holes in that plastic. Now that I'm an adult, I always start out with good intentions of sealing up my windows as soon as the weather starts to shift in November. But here we are in Duluth, in January and I've still yet to start the project. It's not that there isn't a good reason to. According to the US Department of Energy, heat gain and loss through windows are responsible for 25-30% of heating and cooling energy use. That means that every time you run your heater or air conditioning (yes, it matters in the summer too!), up to 30% of that usage is lost. As someone who's living on a tight budget, those numbers matter. But my life is busy, and it can be hard to fit in yet another seasonal chore into my long list of to-do's. I think it's time for me to admit I need a more permanent solution like replacing windows in our Duluth house. Energy efficient replacement windows can be a game changer when it comes to keeping your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer, without breaking the bank. A smart investment up front can lead to decades of savings. There are a lot of things you'll want to consider when it comes to picking out your new replacement windows and working with a local window company near you in the Duluth area. Factors like window glazing, window frame type, and how the window operates all influence energy efficiency. You'll also want to keep in mind the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, which is a measure of how much solar radiation comes through a window, and the U-Factor, which indicates the rate at which a window conducts heat. Already overwhelmed? Fear not! Here at Oriole Construction, we are well educated on the matter, and more than happy to take you through the process of choosing the right windows for your Duluth area home. It's a decision you'll be glad you made while enjoying the cozy warmth of your winter home, breathing in the relieving cool when stepping inside from a stifling summer day, or checking out the savings for yourself on your monthly utility bill. It's never too soon to get started on a project like this, so reach out to us today at contact@orioleconstruction.com or 218-370-2540 to begin a consultation with a member of our educated staff.
